The beach at Pui O has the definite advantages you mention of edible tucker and a good watering-hole,
A better beach further on along the South Lantau road is the long sandy stretch at Cheung Sha. Not too many there most of the time – and also fitted out with lifeguards, safety nets and changing rooms, etc. The eating facilities there are a bit hopeless though
and it really is a case of BYO.
